Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission (LACCRC)

Neighborhood Council leaders are being invited by the Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission (LACCRC) to a special meeting just for NC members next Wednesday evening June 9th on the Redistricting process for LA’s 15 City Council Districts.    Every ten years following the U.S. Census, the Los Angeles City Charter requires that district boundaries for the City Council be redrawn so that each district is substantially equal in population. As part of this process, a twenty-one-member Redistricting Commission is formed with members from the public with the authority to make recommendations on a Redistricting plan to the City Council that sets boundaries for the City Council districts.    Redistricting is primarily done using U.S. Census data, but is expected to be delayed until August or September 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Per the City Charter, the Redistricting process for the City of Los Angeles must be completed by December 31, 2021.
Attend the June 9th Redistricting meeting for NC members
In order to engage the public in this important effort, the LACCRC’s Community Outreach Committee invites Neighborhood Councils from all over the City of Los Angeles to join them for a planning meeting on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 6:30pm.    The meeting will take place on Zoom. RSVP to Redistricting.LAcity@LAcity.org to receive details on how to join the meeting online or by phone.    The purpose of this meeting is to solicit from Neighborhood Councils their experiences and perspectives on how to best engage Neighborhood Councils in the City Council Redistricting Public Hearings (scheduled to begin in July and go until the end of August) and throughout the Redistricting process.     The LACCRC values the input from Neighborhood Councils and the many other stakeholders who will play a critical role in ensuring fair and inclusive representation.
