CFAC tomorrow discussing the fire, trees and vegetation
Sharing this meeting opportunity…
Dear Trees Committee and Friends,
By special request from the City, CFAC will be doing a 45 minute advisory session tomorrow on
urban forestry educational materials and resources that CFAC views as beneficial in light of the recent local disaster. I attached the agenda.
Today I received from Nurit Katz, the DWP Commissioner who is also Chief Sustainability Officer at UCLA, a hot off the press expert piece from UCLA and UCSB regarding fire myths and responses to them. https://sustainablela.ucla.edu/fuels-management-jan-2025
(fyi I am not related to Carla D’Antonio who is one of the authors of this scientific report)
This report debunks many myths regarding CA fires, and the last one in the report deals with the structure fires we recently experienced. The conclusions to each myth are important to consider, especially as the City moves forward to rebuild, and residents want to protect themselves but may make uninformed unscientific decisions.
