The Passing of Ed Hunt

The Passing of Ed Hunt

Today I heard that our great friend and PlanCheckNC Steering Committee member Ed Hunt passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019.  Over this past weekend he was communicating with the City on quality of life issues in his neighborhood and as Ed would often do, he shared them with me.  I have thought all day about the many times I’ve talked with Ed about the issues that never seem to be handled effectively byScreen Shot 2019-06-25 at 6.55.34 PM the City.  At our second Saturday morning PlanCheckNC meetings we would often meet at the restaurant across the street for coffee, early before the meeting started.  We would talk about concerns like over height fences, demolition of great homes over a weekend (or over night!), homeless issues, building height increases, paved over front yards, no landscaping.    I will miss Ed a great deal.  He believed in speaking up and standing up for his community and for all of us involved in land use in the City of Los Angeles.  He was a landscape architect by profession and he asked some great questions.  He got answers or promises that he would get answers.   He never gave up.  We must promise to bring in the L.A. Housing Department to PlanCheckNC.  We could not make it happen and I want to promise that we will and to do so with L.A. Department of Building & Safety.  He always had a lot of questions and statements for why the City should be doing something but they wouldn’t. We will also promise to bring back Vince Bertoni.  Maybe we’ll get them in the same room, at the same time in Ed’s honor.  Ed, we will miss you at PlanCheckNC.  We learned a great deal from you and with you.  I thank you for being a “nudge” and reminding me of many tasks and topics.  Thank you for being a “nudge” to encourage the PlanCheckNC Steering Committee topics.  Thank you for bringing great topics to us including the most controversial ones.
