Development Reform Strategic Plan
PlanCheckNC was pleased to host a presentation of the Development Reform Strategic Plan – Building a Better LA at its Second Saturday Program on June 11. The presentation by Gayla Kraetsch Hartsough, President, KH Consulting Group, was intended to provide an opportunity for PlanCheckNC, Neighborhood Council and Community Council representatives and active stakeholders to learn more about the Strategic Plan and proposed development reform while the document was still being drafted. Comment on the existing development process and draft proposal as presented was invited.
As explained by Ms. Kraetsch Hartsough at the June PlanCheckNC Program, the Development Reform Strategic Plan is more like an internal business plan for how the City Departments will work together. As more of an internal operating plan, the Strategic Plan will be reviewed and discussed within the various City Departments and Departmental action plans will be developed. Implementation will require ordinances with the requisite public notice and review process for implementation. As part of continual improvements and making strategic planning an ongoing process, the City should build on improvements made and look for other areas that need to be addressed. What is outlined in the Development Reform Strategic Plan is what the City believes it can address with its current resources during the next three years.
PlanCheckNC’s goal is to continue to ensure that the process is open, transparent and inclusive. We do not take positions on individual issues, but rather endeavor to open the process. Subsequent to the PlanCheckNC Program, the power point presentation, map and brief description of the plan were made available electronically to help those attending to share the information. Now is the time to share your thoughts and voice your issues. Help us to inform and to solicit responses, comments, and ultimately provide for wider distribution of the Development Reform Strategic Plan.
We have been told that the Development Reform Strategic Plan Report itself will be released in the beginning of July. It will be posted on both the Building and Safety and City Department of Planning websites. PlanCheckNC will also request electronic copy for distribution to those interested in a copy of the report. Please review the available background materials as well as share them with your Neighborhood Councils, Community Councils, HOAs, friends and neighbors. Check IN THE NEWS on the PlanCheckNC website for updates on the process. Anyone interested in learning about Planning and Land Use issues is invited to join us for PlanCheckNC on the Second Saturday of the month. Become part of the process.
