Los Angeles County Traffic Improvement Plan

Los Angeles County Traffic Improvement Plan

Over the last three months, we have heard from thousands of you throughout Los Angeles County about our potential sales tax ballot measure and its draft spending plan. With your feedback in mind, Metro staff has just released its final recommendation called the Los Angeles County Traffic Improvement Plan. The Plan recommends an ongoing sustained investment for transportation with a new ½ cent sales tax and replacing the current Measure R tax starting in 2040 until voters decide to end it.  We believe this revised plan will address our transportation needs now and for many decades to come, leaving an infrastructure inheritance for our children and grandchildren.

This Plan:
Provides funds to build more critical transportation projects including accelerating nine major road and   transit projects by a combined 42 years for a savings of more than $9 billion.
Provides resources to maintain our transportation system in good working order.
Provides more money to cities and unincorporated areas throughout L.A. County for local streets, intersections, sidewalks, bike projects and other programs.
Requires greater accountability and oversight.
Guarantees a reliable transportation funding stream to our County, once and for all.
Staff will be presenting this plan to the Metro Board of Directors at their Planning and Programming Committee on Wednesday, June 15, at 2 p.m., and at their Executive Management Committee on Thursday, June 16, at 11:30 a.m. The full Board of Directors will consider adopting the revised plan, including whether to place a measure on the November ballot to raise the local sales tax and continue the Measure R sales tax beyond its 2039 expiration, at their meeting on Thursday, June 23, at 9 a.m.

Thank you for contributing to the development of our regional plan. We appreciate your interest and welcome your continued participation.
