Bicycle Plan Draft released for Public Review & Comment

The Department of Planning is pleased to announce the availability of the complete Bicycle Plan draft for public review and comments. The Bicycle Plan draft includes the bikeway maps released to the public in May, as well the plan text and appendices. They are posted on the LA Bike Plan website (www.labikeplan.org).

Comments will be accepted through November 6, which will be addressed in a final draft that will be the subject of public hearings at a later date. All comments or questions should be directed to Jordann Turner via email: jordann.turner@lacity.org or via phone: (213) 978-1379.

Additional information on location of copies for review and location of the four scheduled workshops is given below.

The proposed draft Bicycle Plan is a comprehensive update of the current Bicycle Plan first adopted in 1996 and re-adopted by the City Council in 2007. The draft Bicycle Plan proposes approximately 696 miles of new bikeways and new policies related to implementation, education, enforcement, engineering, parking, transit integration, maintenance and evaluation. The draft 2009 Bicycle Plan is available for download on the project website [www.labikepla.n.org].
Printed copies of the Draft Bicycle Plan will be available for public review at the locations listed below. At public libraries, please request copies from the Reference Desk:

In addition to the four public workshops, opportunities for presentations to neighborhood councils, community organizations and advocacy groups are available. However due to the City’s financial situation all requests may not be fulfilled. Subsequently, public comments and testimony will be addressed in the staff report transmitting the proposed 2009 Bicycle Plan to the City Planning Commission for its consideration and to the City Council for adoption at a later date.

Comments should be submitted on or before November 6, 2009 and all comments received will be part of the public record and constitute an integral part of the public testimony made on the proposed Bicycle Plan.
