NC resolutions and/or recommendations regarding California Peripheral Canal

On Saturday, June 13, 2009, Challis MacPherson of the Venice NC briefed stakeholders at the PlanCheckNC Forum about the California Peripheral Canal.

Since that time we have received requests for further information about this issue. Challis has agreed to take the point and keep us informed as additional information becomes available. She has also provided information about where to send resolutions if your NC would like to take a position or send a comment.

SUBJECT: California Peripheral Canal

At a regular meeting of the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils’ Land Use and Planning Committee June 14, 2009, it was moved, seconded and passed unanimously to recommend that the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils recommend and support the following resolution:

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Whereas: It is necessary for the State of California to take quick and prompt action to secure adequate water to supply the people of California;

Whereas: Taking water from the Sacramento River North of the Delta will not affect the Delta Smelt population;

Whereas: Salmon appear to be in decline around the world consistent with the climate change;

Whereas: The fragility of the Delta levee system will not be affected by a Peripheral Canal;

BE IT RESOLVED:

That the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils promotes and affirms that it is in the best interest of all citizens that the California Peripheral Canal be funded, built and operated.
